Fiat Topolino- the Chic Ami is here. Finally!

Regular readers will be aware I’m a bit of a tiny EV nut. As in I love tiny eVs, but I’m unashamedly a massive EV nut. I have had a Twizzy, a few i3’s and an iMeV, and my wife has a Fiat 500e and - most excitingly - I have ‘Buddy’ the Citroen Ami, which brings a lot of joy and is a hoot to drive (flawed as it is).

However, the Ami’s looks are somewhat challenging with its symmetrical front and rear that only a mother could love.

So has FIAT come to the rescue with its much cuter Topolino version of the Ami? Following a two year delay the UK order books for the Topolino have finally opened. Like the Ami, it is ideally suited to short urban journeys, leisure use and low-speed urban environments.

Other improvements over the Ami is a more sensible position for the gear selector which is in the centre dash, rather than under your left buttock, and a much more chic speedo cowling and dash.

This news, whilst welcome, is somewhat dampened after such a long wait as the Topolino was first announced in 2023 and was available to order elsewhere in Europe, but finally its going on sale in the U.K.

However, what I am excited about is a surprise new colour for ‘Littlemouse’!

A Tiny Slice of Mediterranean Sunshine

The Corallo edition swaps the standard Verde Vita green for a bold, sun-kissed coral-orange that Fiat describes as “warm, optimistic, and unmistakably Italian.” Paired with a contrasting black roof, chrome accents, retro door mirror caps, and white wheel covers, it looks, well, Bellissimo .

Available to order later in 2026 (Q3), the Corallo joins the regular Verde Vita model as part of Fiat’s push into accessible urban electric mobility.

Just like the Ami, this is not actually a car. It’s a light quadracycle, and doesn’t have any safety features other than seatbelts. No airbags even. No frills so no aircon, no power steering, no heater even. You can’t even flash or turn off the headlights. You don’t even get a radio or any speakers.

But, all this doesn’t really matter if you use the ‘not a car’ for its intended purposes, and a Bluetooth speaker is all you need to get to keep you company, plus you can just use your phone in a cradle if you need to use navigation. Simples.

Topolino translates to “little mouse” in Italian, and pays tribute to the original Fiat 500 Topolino produced between 1936 and 1955 – a car that was designed for affordability, had compact dimensions and plenty of Italian charm.

As we touched on in a recent article, the Topolino is part of a collection of small FIAT’s that is drawing from its heritage with new, small electric cars.

Powered by a 6kW electric motor and a 5.5kWh battery, Topolino has a top speed of just 28mph with a driving range of up to 46 miles (WLTP), ideal for everyday, albeit, local use.
Just like the Citroen Ami it uses a single-speed automatic transmission and simple-to-use three-position drive selector with Drive, Neutral and Reverse, but is more conveniently mounted on the dashboard in the Topolino.

With its diminutive size, the Topolino offers usable space on the inside. This is helped by the offset front seats positioned to accommodate space for two. And for shopping bags, there’s 63-litres of storage, but that does include a ‘Dolce Vita’ fabric-topped compartment on top of the dashboard.

And thanks to its small proportions, and all-around glass, parking the tiny mouse should be a breeze.

Unfortunately, they don’t appear to be bringing the Dolce Vita edition with its ropes for doors - and a built in shower - to us here in the UK as seen in the picture below.

Kris Cholmondeley, managing director of FIAT UK, commented “Topolino is an important part of FIAT’s sustainable micromobility strategy, delivering simple, accessible urban mobility.

“It offers a practical solution for short journeys, leisure use and city environments, while fully embracing FIAT’s values of joy, simplicity and fun.”

Fiat Topolino is now open for orders in the UK and will be built to order through a network of selected UK retailers. On-the-road pricing starts at £8,995
